 HERO Lines

Picture
Originally established in 1999, Little Heroes Rattery operated successfully in Southern California (under the same name) for many years. After a lengthy hiatus, we have since relocated to sunny Orlando, Florida, and are working to create lines all our own once again! This is a lengthy process and we will not truly consider lines 'ours' for 3-6 generations... and until we can confidently express the long-term health, temperaments and overall longevity of each of our lines. So for now, the information expressed below are our goals. We intend each of our lines to come in both Standard and Dwarf size with Dumbo ears and Smooth/Rex/Harley/Velveteen/Hairless coats.

House of Voodoo (Marten/Red Eyed Devil/Black Eyed Devil Line)

Our House of Voodoo line is focused on creating the darkest, blackest Martens (i.e. RED/Red Eyed Devils).  Named after our first Marten rat, Marie Laveau, this line has been a long time in the dreaming. RED's came on to our radar many years ago; however we were unable to successfully import some of our own. After our breeding hiatus, we discovered - much to our delight - that someone else had! We have been afforded the opportunity to get our Marie Laveau. Since beginning this line, at the start of 2021, we have decided to pursue BE Martens (black-eyed), as they have better eyesight - and have a much higher adoptability.

The Witching Hour (Black Self Line)

Pure black rats are rarer than most folks would think. Black Self's (pure black with no silvering or markings, and no white toes) are extremely difficult to come across. However, black rats are useful for breeders in many ways! Breeding a black self into a Blue line will make the color deeper and richer... breeding a black self into a Siamese or Himalayan line will darken and improve the points (nose, tail base, feet/ankles and ears)...  the list goes on. On top of having this line around to improve our other lines, we find black self rats quite stunning all on their own.

Superstition (Blue Line)

Blue rats come in a variety of shades and colors... there are American or Powder Blues, Slate Blues, Russian Blues, etc. RB was one of our first lines back in the early 2000's (with Blue Ash, who's photo sits with honor in our rattery). We are working toward establishing a Blue line in both marked and unmarked (Self), with a focus on good conformation. Our primary focus at this time will be Russian Blue and Russian Blue Agouti.

Coven (Siamese and C-Locus Line)

Seal Point Siamese was our very first breeding line, back in the day. It all started with two rats we obtained (Maxine and Andrea - who's photographs sit with honor in our rattery). For nostalgia alone, we decided right out the gate to begin a healthy Siamese line once again. We would like to establish a line of quality BE (black-eyed) Siamese (in both Seal and Russian Blue Point) at some point, and work on getting that nice gradience of color from their points, across their entire bodies. This line will also be home to our Burmese rats. Ultimately we would like to shift over to Tonkinese, but at this time they are difficult to come by in Florida.

NAME THIS LINE

We have saved the best for last! This line is purely based on temperament and personality. While long-term health is always a foundation (to all of our lines), this one does not follow that up with a particular coat color or type. In this line you could find Silvermane or Siamese - Blue Self's or Black Variegated! Our founding doe for this line is Gypsy Luck, and everything goes out from there. Gypsy has what we consider top-tier in the personality department. She is outgoing and gregarious, confident and inquisitive. We would trust this rat to interact with even the most nervous youngster - and with any rat in our household. In the dog world, she'd be called bomb-proof. This line is exclusively to produce more rats just like her - and coat color/etc is no consideration here.
